The Eden Valley-Watkins girls basketball team held St. Cloud Cathedral to nine first-half points on the way to a 39-29 win in the Section 5-2A semifinals Tuesday.
The Eagles, seeded No. 2 in the North subsection, advance to face Watertown-Mayer, seeded No. 2 in the South subsection, in the section championship at 8 p.m. Friday at Halenbeck Hall.

Sophomore guard Kristin Phillipp made five steals and Kelsey Stenger held Cathedral star Erin Januschka to 10 points.

“We thought (Januschka) was their main weapon and Kelsey did a good job on her most of the time,” Eagles coach Tom Jansen said.

Freshman center Courtney Dilley led Eden Valley-Watkins with 10 points and seven rebounds. Stenger and Brittney Schmitz scored eight points apiece for the Eagles.

Senior guard Grace Balfanz scored eight points in her final game for Cathedral. Marissa Pareigat made the game’s only three-pointer.
