The Alumni Association of Atwater High School, Atwater-Grove City High School and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School will hold a board meeting on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:15 p.m. in the Atwater Community Center small meeting room. Concert choirs from both the Hutchinson and Willmar campuses of Ridgewater College will combine for a performance in Litchfield on February 23rd at Zion Lutheran Church at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend and admission is free. The accompanist for the performance is Judith Zylstra. Several guest instrumentalists from the Litchfield area will also take part.

The Humane Society of Kandiyohi and Meeker Counties will host the 6th “Save Our Tails” fundraiser on Friday, February 24th from 6-to-9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Willmar. There will be a light buffet, a silent auction, a live auction, a kid’s game room and more. Tickets are $25 for adults and $7 for kids under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in Willmar.

The Paynesville Nite Owls have a square dance at Paynesville Elementary School on Saturday, February 25th – with plus dancing from 7:30-to-8 p.m. and mainstream dancing from 8-to-10 p.m. Roger McNeil will be the caller. Sloppy joes will be served during a potluck lunch following the dance.

The Journey Expo will be at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson on Saturday, February 25th from 10-to-6, and Sunday, February 26th from 10-to-5. The St. Philip’s Youth Group will have a spaghetti and lasagna dinner on Saturday, February 25th from 5-to-8 p.m. at St. Philip’s Church in Litchfield. There will be two seatings – at 5 and 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children 3-to-10, and free for kids under 3. If you buy tickets at the door, you will be served spaghetti. St. John's Lutheran Church in Plato has a pancake dinner on Sunday, February 26th from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, ham, applesauce, dessert and beverage. It's $9 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 12, and free for kids 4 and under. Take-outs will also be available.

 

The 2012 Meeker County 4-H Share The Fun and Performing Arts Day will be on Sunday, February 26th at 1 p.m. in Bernie Aaker Auditorium at the Meeker County Family Services Center in Litchfield. Everyone is welcome.

 

The Church of Our Lady in Manannah has a smoked and fresh sausage and pancake supper, with beverages and desserts on Sunday, February 26th from 4-to-7 p.m. It’s $8 for adults, $4 for children 6-to-12 and $1 for children 2-to-5. There will also be cash bingo.

 

The McLeod County Historical Museum in Hutchinson will have program on World War II and the Holocaust on Sunday, February 26th from 2-to-4 p.m. Larry Tillemans, an eyewitness to the Nuremburg Trials will be speaking. For more information, call 587-2109.

Cora Mae is the infant daughter of Chris & Jane Hendrickson and is in need of a kidney transplant.

Cassandra Mae Jopp will be performing during a Litchfield Watercade fundraising event on Saturday, March 10th at 7 p.m. in the Bernie Aaker Auditorium. The Litchfield High School Jazz Band and Dragonaires will also perform. Reserved tickets are $15 in the lower level. Tickets in the balcony are $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 18. Daffodil Days will be coming up in Meeker County March 12th through the 16th. You can get a bunch of 10 daffodils for $10, and bunch in a vase for $15, a pot of mini daffodils for $15 or a “Bear and a Bunch” for $25. For more details, call Jan Schlack at 693-5311. Rosendale United Methodist Church will be having it's Annual Bake Sale and Luncheon on Friday, March 16th in the Atwater Community Center. Baked goods, coffee, rolls and muffins will be served from 8:30 A.M. to 2 P.M. The luncheon will include BBQ and egg salad sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans and pie. An assortment of baked goods and crafts will be available. Everyone is welcome.

The McLeod County Master Gardener 2012 McLeod County Horticulture Education Day will be on Saturday, March 31st from 8 A.M.-to-3 P.M. at the Best Western Victorian Inn in Hutchinson. The day will feature several speakers and topics. The cost is $20 if you pre-register by March 16th, and $25 if you register after the 16th. The cost includes lunch and more. The Peanut Butter & Milk Festival Committee will meet on Tuesday, April 10th at 7 p.m. in the Litchfield High School Ag Room – E-115. This is one week earlier than most months. Everyone’s welcome. The annual meeting of the Peanut Butter & Milk Festival will be held immediately following the regular meeting on April 10th.

Crackerjack Nursery School will open up registration to the public on March 5th. Crackerjack is a non-profit pre-school open to 3-through-5 year old children, promoting hands-on learning, social interaction, and activities that will help prepare children for Kindergarten. The McLeod County Museum in Hutchinson will no longer have Monday evening hours. The new hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 1-to-4. Heartland Community Action Agency has the Reach Out For Warmth program to assist families who are having trouble paying their heating bills. If anyone is willing to make a tax-deductible contribution to the program, send checks to Heartland Community Action Agency at 200 Southwest 4th Street, Post Office Box 1359, Willmar, MN 56201.

 

If you’re concerned about making your house payments, Heartland Community Action Agency and the Minnesota Home Ownership Center and the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency are teaming up to provide counseling. Senior dining is available in Grove City at South Grove Square. Meals are served Mondays through Fridays, except for major holidays, at 11:30 a.m. Use the north entrance. Reservations need to be made one day in advance. Call 857-2274 or 857-9473. Grove City has the same menu as the meal site in Litchfield. Home delivered meals are also available. The suggested donation for seniors is $3.50 – and $6.50 for people under 60.
